AI in construction: where it actually helps
Most useful AI in AEC isn't generative wow. It's quiet help with the boring, repetitive parts of design and review.
Most of the AI demos I see in construction try to be impressive. The ones that ship and stick are usually the opposite — small, narrow, and grounded in the project's own data.
Where it pays off
- Pulling answers out of the project's own standards and past issues.
- Speeding up engineering checks that follow clear rules.
- Drafting outputs (schedules, reports, notes) that a human then signs off.
Where to be careful
Anything that needs judgment or carries liability. AI should help an engineer be faster and more consistent, not replace the engineer.
